At arTsenal,
Olivier Goulet presents a group of drawings from the series Human
Profile.
These hybrid
figures —
merging animal, human, and vegetal forms — are executed at life
scale, the bodily scale that imposes itself upon him, and unfold
various types of chimeras born from his gesture and imagination.
His
drawings foreground the porosity of organisms and the energetic flows that connect the figures to one another. They
open a vertigo between microcosm and macrocosm, between dissolution and re-creation of being.
With Human
Profile,
the artist proposes a pacified vision of a bionic world in which the
organic and the digital coexist without opposition. The human no
longer appears as dominant or culpable, but as one constituent among
others within a world free from hierarchies of living beings.
As
Marc Donnadieu wrote in 2009 : “According to Olivier Goulet, the
human being is articulated as paradoxical and dual—organic and
almost planetary, body as much as corpuscles, infinitely small and
infinitely large, blurred and disordered as much as precise and
organized, akin to DNA, atoms, or the organization of the cosmos.”
